How to Remove LittleBigPlanet Mods: PS3 and RPCS3 - LBP Union (2024)

Steps and Screenshots Provided by Yuki64, LBP Union Starguard Captain. ‘The Peeper’ mod featured in this article created by @SpacyBeanie

Collected some modded items that you don’t want anymore in LittleBigPlanet? It’s Unfortunately not quite as easy as easy as just pressing the delete button. Since modded items can act like base-game materials, stickers, and other resources, the option to delete them simply isn’t there. So, how do you remove LittleBigPlanet mods? Let’s explore a few methods that can help you clean out your profile of unwanted mods!

What Are Mods?

If you’ve got some strange stuff in your popit, it could be a modified item. You may have picked these up by mistake while playing community levels. Mods are simply objects, costume pieces, or other items that are manually added to the game by creators.

LBP Union’s LittleBigPlanet custom server Beacon doesn’t allow most mod uploads, but some mods are whitelisted by the server, meaning that the server will allow those specific resources to be uploaded. Most of the mods whitelisted on Beacon were uploaded before the mod filter was put into place and are harmless aside from the fact that they can take up some unwanted space in your popit. Other mods, like the Blåhajdecoration added to Beacon for pride month were manually whitelisted by server administrators and are verified to be safe and harmless.

However, if you go out of your way to play on other custom servers or download level backups from the Internet, it’s possible you might come across other mods that might make their way into your popit from completing levels or picking up prize bubbles. Removing LittleBigPlanet mods isn’t always easy because they are added as native materials and costume pieces. This is problematic if the mod in your inventory is inappropriate, causes harm, or if you don’t want it for any other reason.

There are two ways to remove mods from your profile: using the PlayStation 3 method and then the Craftworld Toolkit method. Let’s explore both of them.

Removing LittleBigPlanet Mods on PlayStation 3

If you’re on PlayStation 3, you’re in luck. There’s a fairly simple way to remove LittleBigPlanet mods in your profile! Here’s how you do it:

  1. Log into PlayStation Network and open an empty level on your moon in create mode.
  2. Load the modded item and immediately pause after starting to load it.
  3. Log out of PlayStation Network from the XMB. Press the PlayStation Button -> Navigate to Network -> Highlight Account Management and press Triangle to find the option to log out.
  4. Go back to LBP by pressing the PlayStation button on your controller and then press triangle on the modded item in your popit, and you will be prompted to delete it.

Make sure you don’t delete the wrong item!

Remove LittleBigPlanet Mods on RPCS3 with Craftworld Toolkit

Unfortunately, removing mods for RPCS3 users is not so simple. This method works on PlayStation 3 as well, but it requires a lot of extra steps. Let’s go through it one step at a time to learn how to remove LittleBigPlanet mods from your profile on RPCS3!

Getting Started: Download JDK and Craftworld Toolkit

The first few things you’ll need are Craftworld Toolkit and Java Development Kit (JDK) 17 or higher. Craftworld Toolkit is software created by Ennuo designed to help work with LittleBigPlanet save files. It uses JDK to function, so you’ll need JDK in order to run it.

Once you have JDK installed, you should be able to open Craftworld Toolkit.

Load Your Profile

Now you’ll need to load your LittleBigPlanet profile data into Toolkit. To do this, navigate to FileLoadSavedataBig Profile.

Now you’ll need to find your profile. If it’s already loaded into RPCS3, you’ll find it in the following directory:

RPCS3/dev_hdd0/game/ABCD12345_USER1/USRDIR/

The name of your profile data that you’re looking for is called a ‘bigfart’ (thanks, Media Molecule!). It will have some trailing numbers after it that will differ from profile to profile.

Find the Modded Item

Once you’ve opened the bigfart LittleBigPlanet profile file in Craftworld Toolkit, now it’s time to find the modded item. On the left-pane, open the Items folder.

You’ll see a bunch folders underneath items. Choose the folder you think the modded item might be in. For example, modded costumes will appear under costume. When you click on .plan files that appear here, you should see a preview of what the resource looks like in your popit on the right-hand side.

It may take some time to sort through here. Find the .plan file associated with the mod you want to remove. Once you find it, click on it.

Removing the Dependencies

Then, click the Dependencies tab on the right. Open all the folders you see here. Take a screenshot of this and paste it somewhere for your reference, you’ll need it for later!

Each of these are dependencies that this mod relies on. We want to delete all of them to scrub your profile clean of the mod you want to remove. To do that, you’ll need to find each of these files in their respective folders on the left-hand side of Craftworld Toolkit and delete them.

Once you find each one, you can right click on them and then click Delete. The Negativitron will take excellent care of it from there.

Deleting the .plan File

Once all of the dependencies are deleted, it’s now safe to delete the .plan file of the modded item.

Save Your Profile

Now it’s time to save your profile. In the top left, click File → Save as… to save your profile. It’s a good idea to make a backup of your original profile as well just in case something goes wrong. You can put the newly updated profile back in its place at the RPCS3 directory mentioned earlier in this tutorial. Now you can reboot RPCS3 and load your profile in LittleBigPlanet and the modded item should be gone!

Modded Items: Removed!

Congratulations! You’ve removed the unwanted modded items from your profile! Did you find this tutorial helpful?
