While Teluk Gading Jetty also has a ferry to Tioman, Mersing Jetty remains the most popular choice.

In this comprehensive guide, I’ll be walking you through all there is to know about Mersing Jetty.

1. Overview: Mersing Jetty

When visiting Tioman Island, tourists or Singaporeans often depart from Mersing Jetty due to its proximity to Singapore and KL.

Just a speedboat ride away, Mersing Jetty is the gateway to Tioman other nearby islands as well, such as:

• Aur Island
• Besar Island
• Rawa Island
• Tinggi Island
• And more.

While you can go to Tioman through Teluk Gading Jetty, Mersing Jetty remains the favourable choice.

Why?

Besides its convenient location, Mersing Jetty is accessible by public transport from Singapore.

At Mersing Jetty, you can find two ferry operators:

• Bluewater Express
• Cataferry.

Since it’s not uncommon for travellers to stay overnight in Mersing town before their ferry ride the next day, Mersing is preferred for its wider accommodation options.

Disadvantages Of Mersing Jetty:

• Gets especially crowded during the long weekend or Singapore public holiday.
• Less reliable departure schedule, as their waters are more affected by tides.
• Longer ferry rides

3. Transport Options

There are two ways to get to Mersing Jetty from Singapore.

3.1 Private Car Taxi – SGMYTAXI

The best and most preferred way is always by private taxi to Mersing Jetty from Singapore.

As you might know, the traffic jam at the Singapore-Malaysia border is notoriously bad, especially during weekends and public holidays. Here’s proof:

For that reason alone, a private car hire is worth it if it means you don’t have to do all that driving yourself!

Furthermore, a private car taxi is convenient, unlike the bus. There’s no need to get up and down at the checkpoints for clearance while lugging around your heavy luggage.

Your travel schedule is more flexible too.

By departing early, you get to arrive at Mersing Jetty early and catch your ferry on time.

You’ll be travelling in a luxury MPV vehicle, ensuring comfort for your family, kids, or group. It’s time-saving too, as it’s a direct transfer from Singapore to Mersing Jetty.

3.2 Coach

But if you are on a budget, then a coach might be the solution for you.

4. Parking Lots & Fee

Driving to Mersing Jetty? Worried about where to park?

Luckily, Mersing Jetty has an outdoor carpark. There’s no shelter though, however.

It’s a flat rate of RM 15 per day.

Here’s a list of where you can park:

2. Plaza D’Jeti Car Park
3. Dewan Jubli Intan Sultan Ibrahim Car Park
4. Majlis Daerah Mersing Car Park
5. Mersing Jetty Car Park

5. Mersing Harbour Center

This is where you can go to get your ferry tickets over-the-counter.

For those who have purchased your tickets online, here’s where you can collect them:

• Bluewater Express & Naga Shuttle (Counters W1 & W2)
• Cataferry (Counter W5)

At the same time, you are required to pay a marine park conservation fee. Just head over to counter R23 to do it.

Once you have all this settled, you can proceed to the ferry departure hall, located just 100 metres in front of this building.

So if you’re self-driving or using a private car hire, remember to go here first before going to the ferry departure hall.

6. Rawa Island Resort Office

If you’re heading to Rawa Island Resort, go to their office located right next to the Tioman ferry departure hall.

You will need to register and make arrangements before departing to Rawa Island on a speedboat.

Feel free to park your car at the Rawa Island Resort Office car park. Travellers to Rawa Island receive priority parking here.

7. Ferry Terminal Operator & Routes

If you plan to visit Tioman Island, there are numerous operators you can choose from based on your schedule.

You can purchase the ticket online via Cataferry and Bluewater Ferry or at the jetty ticketing counter (although this method is not recommended).

For the Naga Shuttle boat to Tioman Island, you can either contact them via Whatsapp at 6011-1100 4969 or visit their office to learn more, available at: https://www.nagashuttle.com/contact.

Additionally, there is only speedboat available from Mersing Jetty to nearby islands such as Rawa Island, Aur Island, Tinggi Island, Besar Island, etc.

8. Marine Park Conservation Fee

As these islands are part of a marine park sanctuary, visitors are required to pay a marine park conservation fee prior to entering.

9. Departure Procedure

9.1 For Bluewater Express Ferry

Step 1: Fill up the online check-in form.

Step 2: Proceed to counters W1 & W2 located at Mersing Harbour Centre. It is a 100m-walk from the ferry departure terminal. Collect your boarding pass one hour before departure.

Step 3: Go to counter R23 to pay the marine park conservation fee.

Step 4: Walk to the ferry departure hall. It’s 100m away from Mersing Harbour Centre.

Step 5: Proceed to boarding pass check. Then, board the ferry.

9.2 For Cataferry

Step 1: Fill up the online check-in form.

Step 2: Proceed to counter W5 located at Mersing Harbour Centre (+6011-1219 0842) (Ms. Ida-WhatsApp only). It is a 100m walk from the ferry departure terminal. Collect your boarding pass 30 minutes before departure.

Step 3: Go to counter R23 to pay the marine park conservation fee.

Step 4: Wait to board at the waiting hall.

Step 5: Proceed to boarding pass check. Then, board the ferry.
