Mumbai News Live Updates: The Mumbai crime branch has arrested two men who are suspected of firing at Salman Khan’s home early Sunday. Both the accused have been taken into custody from Gujarat’s Bhuj district. While police are probing all possibilities, a Facebook post purportedly uploaded by Anmol Bishnoi, the younger brother of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, claimed responsibility for the firing. No one was injured in the firing, the police said. Salman Khan,who has Y-plus category security, was at home when the incident took place. His family members have expressed their concerns over the security provided to the actor.

Meanwhile, in its final step towards completing the Mumbai Coastal Road Project (MCRP), the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation is set to launch the final girder of the bow-string bridge that will connect the coastal road with Bandra-Worli Sea Link between April 18 and 19. The bridge will be a prefabricated structure and the entire process of launching the girders is being taken on barges that are anchored in the worksite at Worli on Arabian Sea.

Firing at Salman Khan’s home: Shooter Vishal was first arrested for bike theft

One of the suspects allegedly involved in shooting outside actor Salman Khan’s residence in Mumbai on Sunday was arrested in a case of motorbike theft for the first time in 2020 and sent to Tihar jail.

Vishal alias Kalu, associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, was one of the two suspects on a motorcycle who fired five rounds at Salman Khan’s residence in the Bandra area early Sunday.

“In one of the CCTV footage, shared by the Mumbai police with central agencies, Vishal was walking along with another person, who has been identified as of now. But the police are not disclosing his identity yet,” an official said. Read the full story here.

The Mumbai police have registered an FIR after two suspects on a motorcyclefired five rounds at Bollywood actor Salman Khan’s residencein Mumbai’s Bandra area early Sunday.

Both the suspects onboard a motorcycle were caught on CCTV, as per a footage accessed by news agencyPTI.

CM Shinde speaks to Salman Khan after firing outside his home, assures support

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Sunday spoke with Bollywood superstar Salman Khan in the wake of firing outside his residence and assured support saying the state government would not allow anybody to take the law into their hands.

Two motorbike-borne unidentified persons opened fire outside Khan's house in suburban Bandra early Sunday morning leading the police to enhance security and launch a search for the accused, an official said. Speaking to reporters at Chaityabhoomi in suburban Dadar after paying respects to B R Ambedkar on the occasion of his birth anniversary, Shinde also said the firing incident was very unfortunate.

"I spoke with the Mumbai police commissioner and actor Salman Khan and offered him our support. The firing incident is very unfortunate. I assure people that this government will not tolerate anybody trying to take the law into their hands," the chief minister said. (PTI)

Firing at Salman Khan’s home: Lawrence Bishnoi’s brother Anmol Bishnoi ‘claims responsibility’ on Facebook

A Facebook post purportedly uploaded by Anmol Bishnoi, the younger brother of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, has claimed responsibility for the Sunday morningfiring at Bollywood actor Salman Khan’s home in Bandra, Mumbai.

Anmol, wanted for the murder of Punjabi singer Siddhu Moosewala, termed the firing as the “first and last warning” forSalman Khan. “Henceforth, the bullets will not be fired at the walls or any empty house,” he threatened the actor.

Anmol is suspected to be hiding in Canada, police sources said. Crime branch officials inMumbaisaid they were investigating theFacebookpost.

Marathas may contest Maharashtra assembly polls if quota demand not met by June 6: Jarange

Activist Manoj Jarange on Sunday said that while he has decided to stay away from the Lok Sabha poll fray, the Maratha community members might contest the Maharashtra assembly elections if they are not provided reservation till June 6.

The Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra will be held in five phases from April 19 to May 20 and state assembly polls are due later this year.

Vote counting for the Lok Sabha polls will be held on June 4.

"We are not involved in politics. We have not aligned with any party, neither the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi nor the ruling Mahayuti. We have not fielded any candidate and neither supported anyone," Jarange told reporters in Navi Mumbai.

Man found dead with head injuries in Navi Mumbai; murder case registered

An unidentified man was found dead with head injuries near a public toilet in Navi Mumbai's Nerul area, police said on Sunday.

A passerby spotted the body of the man, in his mid to late 40s, in the early hours of Saturday, senior inspector Tanaji Bhagat said.

The police shifted the body, which bore head injuries, to a government hospital for a post-mortem, he said.

A first information report under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered, and a probe is on to ascertain the victim's identity, the official said.

Navi Mumbai man loses Rs 1.22 cr in Forex trading fraud

A 45-year-old man from Navi Mumbai was allegedly duped of more than Rs 1.22 crore in a Forex (foreign exchange) trading fraud, police said on Sunday.

Based on a complaint, the cyber police on Friday registered a case under section 420 (cheating) and other relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code and Information Technology Act against five persons, senior inspector Gajanan Kadam said.

The accused allegedly contacted the victim, a resident of Kharghar, and lured him to invest in Forex trading, promising him lucrative returns, he said.

The complainant made payments to the tune of Rs 1.22 crore between November 2023 and March 2024, the official said.

In January, the complainant found that he had Rs 2.54 crore, including profits, in his Forex trading account, but he was unable to withdraw the sum, he said.

Gunshots heard outside Salman Khan’s residence in Mumbai, police probe on

Gunshots were heard outside Bollywood actor Salman Khan’s residence in Mumbai’s Bandra area early on Sunday, with the police saying that five rounds were fired by unidentified assailants.

Preliminary inquiry revealed that five rounds were fired by two unidentified bike-borne assailants at around 5 am outside the actor’s Galaxy Apartment residence, a police officer said. Salman Khan,who has Y-plus category security, was at home when the incident took place. The Bandra police are in process of filing aFirst Information Report. Besides that, local police’s crime branch officials, too, have launched a parallel investigation.

The police informed that the attackers were wearing helmets and they were checking CCTV footage from the area to track them down.

More on Marathwada, Vidarbha rains

Amidst a yellow alert, moderate showers continued to sweep Marathwada and Vidarbha on Saturday, with the heaviest rain registered in Yavatmal district. With unseasonal hailstorms, rains and gusty winds lashing the region for the 3-4 days, several pockets have experienced extensive crop damage.

After a week of reeling under orange and yellow warnings, the weather bureau has now extended its yellow alert in parts of Vidarbha region until Sunday, following which the rains will recede.

Data procured from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) showed that until 8.30 am on Saturday, the heaviest downpour was received in Vidarbha’s Yavatmal district where 66 mm rainfall was recorded. This was followed by Amravati where 22.6 mm rain was recorded and Nagpur, at 15.4 mm. In Marathwada, meanwhile, the maximum showers were recorded in Parbhani and Nanded districts.

Gokhale Bridge, Barfiwala Flyover alignment: BMC to launch work to connect bridges today

Days after the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) submitted its final report, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is slated to launch the work on connecting the Gopal Krishna Gokhale Bridge with the CD Barfiwala Flyover in Andheri from Sunday evening.

Pegged at a cost of Rs 8 crore, the alignment work will be undertaken over the course of next 90 days, with the BMC eyeing to complete the work by the end of June or first week of July.

Slated to commence from 4 pm today, the work will be launched in the presence of experts from IIT and Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute (VJTI), who had submitted its first technical report to the civic body on March 19. In its report, the VJTI had said that the two flyovers could be merged without demolishing either of them.

Two held from Bihar for cheating woman of Rs 3.12 lakh on pretext of updating KYC

Two persons were held from Nalanda in Bihar for allegedly duping a Mumbai-based woman of Rs 3.12 lakh on the pretext of updating bank KYC details, a police official said on Saturday.

Amit Kumar Dayanand Malakar (24) and Rani Devi Rakesh Paswan (27) were arrested on Friday, the Kalachowki police station official said. "The incident took place in December. The accused, posing as personnel from a leading private sector bank, sent the victim a link on Whatsapp for updating Know Your Customer details. Using details provided by her, the accused took a personal loan of Rs 3.12 lakh," he said.

"After a complaint was filed in January, we intimated the bank and the account into which the money was transferred was frozen. With the help of technical evidence, Malakar and Paswan were held. The mobile phone used in the case was seized," he said. Malakar and Paswan were arrested under Indian Penal Code and Information Technology Act for cheating and other offences, Sub Inspector Rajendra Chavhan said. (PTI)

Crane collapses at road construction site in Thane district; no injuries

A crane engaged in the construction of an expressway collapsed in Maharashtra's Thane district on Saturday, an official said. No one was injured in the accident on the “Mumbai-Vadodara expressway at Chamtoli area in Ambernath taluka”, the official said.

Ambernath Tehsildar Prashanti Mane said the crane driver jumped off just in time to save himself. Efforts are on to put the crane in the upright position, she added. (PTI)

Hearing on April 22 to decide Ola’s future in Pune; no update on Uber

The State Transport Appellate Tribunal will hold a hearing on April 22 to decide whether Ola will be permitted to operate in Pune, as announced by the Pune Regional Transport Office. While the RTO provided updates on Ola's case, there was no information on Uber's position.

Ola has appealed to the state transport appellate authority for legal assistance regarding the approval of their licence to operate their service in the city. Following the appeal, the tribunal has scheduled a hearing date, and the decision will be taken after two weeks.

On March 11, a meeting was held chaired by District Collector Suhas Diwase in the presence of other transport officials, after which the RTO issued an official letter rejecting the applications of ANI Technologies Pvt Ltd (parent company of Ola) and Uber India Systems Pvt Ltd.
