Namibia Namy: Bukalo Chair Faces No-Confidence Vote — What It Means for Local Politics (2025)

Namibia's Bukalo Village Council chairperson, Simataa Mubonda, has dismissed a vote of no confidence as baseless, initiated by the Swapo branch executive committee. The motion, as stated in a letter by Bukalo branch executive chairperson Chuma Mudabeti, accuses Mubonda of failing to actively participate in recent campaign activities, leading to a decline in the party's vote count. Mudabeti claims Mubonda's lack of engagement and community meetings has made him a liability, even suggesting he collaborate with the opposition. However, Mubonda refutes these claims, asserting that the vote of no confidence is not procedural and is driven by personal motives. The Swapo Party constitution is also cited as not supporting the motion. Dorothy Kabula, the Zambezi Swapo coordinator, acknowledged receiving the letter but declined to comment further.
