Ten Noted Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiaros- tami takes another look at the sociological makeup of his homeland, this time through the eyes of a woman as she drives the streets of Tehran with a variety of female passengers. (Laemmle Music Hall, Beverly Hills) Events Art of Visual Storytelling: The Festival of Cinematography The American Cinema- tribute to master of light, the cinematographer, wraps with a pair of films lit by two of the best. Edward Lachman garnered considerable praise last year for the autumnal tones he created for Todd From Earlier, he shot another tale of repressed lives, Sofia feature directing debut, The Virgin Suicides Kirsten Dunst and Josh Hartnett. Classic Films at the Skirball Acynical gumshoe named Sam Spade woos a dangerous dish named Brigid (Mary Astor), slaps around a gunselnamed Wilmer (Elisha Cook Jr.) and an effeminate Levantine named Cairo (Peter Lorre) and verbally spars with a sinister, grimly bemused fat man (Sydney Greenstreet) in John The Maltese Falcon (1941).
